Fire alarm systems. Smoke gets noticed even in an empty room

A fire alarm system detects smoke or heat and alerts the whole building: a detector signals the control panel, and the panel sets off the sounders and warning beacons. We fit manual call points, smoke and heat detectors, sounders and the cabling to the fire alarm panel in shops, offices, warehouses and industrial units, and we check every detector once the work is finished. We take this work on in Belgrade and in Serbia's other towns and villages, and our registered office is in Valjevo.

What we do

  • Fire detection through a control panel, for the whole building
  • Smoke detectors and heat detectors
  • Sounders and warning beacons
  • Cabling from detectors, call points and sounders to the fire alarm panel
  • Manual call points by the exits and in corridors
  • Zones, so the panel shows where the alarm is
  • A check of every detector once fitting is complete
  • Periodic servicing of the system

When you need it

  • You're opening a shop or office where several people work all day. When a detector senses smoke, the sounders warn everyone, even those in another part of the premises.

  • Your warehouse or industrial unit has rooms people rarely go into. A detector there picks up the smoke, and the whole building hears the sounders.

  • You've extended the building or put up new partitions, and the new part isn't covered. It needs detectors and cabling back to the panel.

  • Your existing system gives so many false alarms that people no longer take it seriously. The cause is usually the wrong detector, dust or steam; we trace and fix it.

Good to know

A smoke detector reacts to smoke, so it notices a fire early, often before any flames appear. In a kitchen, boiler room or garage, steam, cooking fumes, exhaust or dust can fool it, so those rooms usually get a heat detector, which reacts to a rise in temperature. A heat detector goes off later than a smoke detector, which is why it's used mainly where smoke or steam would keep causing false alarms.

How we work

  1. You send the floor plan.

Send a sketch or plan of the premises with the room layout and photos of the ceilings, and note what goes on where: kitchen, storage, offices.

  2. We plan the cable routes.

From the plan and the ceiling photos we decide where the cables run to the panel, with as little damage to walls and ceilings as possible.

  3. We run the cables.

We run the cables from the detectors, call points and sounders back to the panel zone by zone, in trunking or above the suspended ceiling.

  4. We connect the panel.

We mount the detectors and sounders, connect everything to the panel and set up the zones, so the panel shows where a signal has come from.

  5. We check every detector.

When the wiring is done, we trigger every detector and call point and check that the panel receives the signal and the sounders can be heard in every zone.

How is a stand-alone smoke alarm different from a fire alarm system?

A stand-alone smoke alarm usually sounds only where it's fitted and mostly runs on a battery. A fire alarm system has a control panel and cabling, and when any detector senses smoke, sounders go off throughout the building. A system also makes sense where a single alarm wouldn't be heard everywhere, such as a larger shop or an industrial unit.

Why does a detector give false alarms?

Most often it's dust inside the detector, steam or cooking fumes, or the wrong detector for the room, such as a smoke detector in a kitchen. A damaged cable or a detector past its service life can also cause it. Don't ignore the alarms or switch the system off: checking the detectors and the panel finds the cause.

What decides the cost of a fire alarm system?

Mostly the building's size and number of rooms, as detectors are planned room by room and by floor area. The call points and sounders, the cable run to the panel and the panel's capacity in zones and detectors count too. Send the floor plan, and the system design if there is one, and we'll say what the job involves.
